White-Tailed Deer Odocoileus virginianus Central Texas contains the thickest concentration of these ungulates on the planet. Consequently, Central Texas also contains the thickest concentration of gun-totin' deer-killin' rednecks on the planet. South Austin was once rife with white-tailed deer. The rednecks shot'em all, and then the bleeding heart liberals moved in. The rednecks had to evacuate to the outlying areas. Although both deer and rednecks are rare in the Twisty Compound, the former wander freely in small hordes around my sister's neighborhood, which is where these two were photographed (the latter, along with most other ethnic groups, are kept out of my sister's neighborhood by iron gates crusted in upper).
