Mediterranean Gecko Hemidactylus turcicus

Also known as the house gecko.

Much is made of a gecko's appetite for cockroaches. Apparently wild horses cannot deter them from pursuit of this delicacy. Even though they have a primordial, Golem-y quality, and are born with a hideous translucence for which I have little affinity, I do not stand in their way. At any given moment there are at least three of these patrolling the Twisty offices, and by cockroaches the premises are unafflicted. Coincidence?

Photos August 2003

I accidentally separated this one from most of its tail while attempting a catch-and-release.

The tail flopped on its own for a while.
