Common House Spider or Cobweb Weaver, Achaearanea tepidariorum

This varmint is the cunning force behind all your cobwebs. These gals spin flimsy, amorphous masses of silk at random in and around the domicile, especially in corners and windowsills. There they await such hapless bugs as the wind blows their way. When the tots hatch, they throw out silk balloons and float away to parts unknown.

This female specimen with her bag-o-eggs was observed outside the Twisty kitchen window in August 2004. The egg sac has the texture of expensive watercolor paper. Approximately 1 week separates the bottom 2 photos.
