Mute Swan Cygnus olor What brackish estuary would be complete with out a herd of swans? The slick of urban oils and lotions floating on Town Lake does not deter these seven swans from swimmin. One distinguishes cygnus olor from the whistling swan primarily by bill color (orange vs. black). The swan is the cynical celebrity of the urban park, and is unimpressed by human ogling. The photo on the left was snapped just seconds before the subject took it upon herself to attack the photographer with no small vim. Assorted adult swans and large cygnets, September 2004, Town Lake, Austin |
