Gulf Coast Toad Bufo valliceps

Wherefore art all the toads? This occasion was one of only two toad sightings for 2004, and there were none in 2003.

The Twisty Herpetology Department still can't sex a toad, but these two were exceedingly chummy, having gotten it, as they say, on, just seconds before I snapped this touching candid shot. Thus we are confident in stating that one's a male and one's a female.

The Gulf Coast toad can be identified by the V-shaped indentation between its eyes.
